Class Descriptions

This class is the ideal place for beginners and families/kids, but it’s also great for the advanced belts who want to drill foundational BJJ skills. We will concentrate on the basic positions and submissions from mount, closed guard, side control, and the back. We start class with drilling techniques, then end with positional sparring. We may do a few rounds of live rolling as time and experience levels permit. You do not have to purchase any gi or no-gi gear before starting class - we have lots of options to reduce the financial burden of training gear.

This is where we start exploring variations on the basic moves. We will still drill techniques but there is more of a focus on just rolling, with the option of preparing for competitions in the Friday night class. Adult beginners are certainly welcome to attend this class, but it’s still recommended to get a few classes of Fundamentals before jumping into the deep end. Any kids under 14 need to talk to Coach Joe to determine if they’re ready for this class.

Open Mat

This is a chance to work on whatever you need, whether it’s drilling, troubleshooting a technique, or just getting in some rolls. There is no formal structure to this class, so bring your gear and your questions! Both gi and no-gi are welcome, depending on what you would like to work on. Adults and kids welcome, and this is open to all affiliations - whoever wants to come train! No drop-in fees.
